Paul ‘Seiji’ Dolby is one of the progenitors of broken beat and long time member of Bugz In The Attic. Seiji started in music as a classically trained cellist, but as a teenager in the early 1990s he discovered Hardcore, Jungle and later US House music.

His early experiments in electronic music were released on the seminal Jungle/D’n’B label, Reinforced. At the same time Seiji started collaborating with Orin Walters (Afronaught) and together they formed Bugz in the Attic, which grew into a collective of beatmakers based in West London.

Bugz set up a studio and label, carving out a strong reputation as cutting edge remixers and underground recording artists, even threatening the UK charts with their 2004 release ‘Booty La La’. Bugz also jointly ran the legendary Sunday club night, Co-Op, the home of ‘broken beat’, where Seiji played regularly, and this was the start of an international DJ career which has taken him all over the world.

It was also during this time that Seiji released one of his biggest dance floor tunes, ‘Loose Lips’, probably the most well known beat of the ‘broken’ era. After leaving Bugz in 2007, Seiji released DJ Tools, an experimental beats album, on Sonar Kollektiv, at the same time as producing and co-writing much of Roisin Murphy’s ‘Overpowered’ LP.

Seiji’s influence is now more keenly felt than ever, with myriad UK funky and contemporary garage producers referencing his work. He has now returned to underground dance music, presenting his own fresh and eccentric takes on house, hip-hop, R&B, drum ‘n bass, dancehall and 2-step with remixes for Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Basement Jaxx, Crookers, Florence & The Machine and Gorillaz.

In the last year he began seijigoodies, a set of exclusive free tracks, via his website www.seiji.co.uk, and now presents SEIJI 1 Yesman/Elevator, the first in a new series of Seiji records.
