Following from the success of their last single The Mighty Q, this time it’s Gratitude, accompanied by a Polar Bear remix featuring the amazing talents of British MC Jyager; a remix by underground studio genius Rebel Elements (whose credits include Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and LSK) featuring the amazing vocals of Jamaican legend Paul Diamond and a remix by Ladyland guitarist and TrioVD co-founder Chris Sharkey.
Gratitude was originally inspired by grime artists Giggs and JME, as well as Dr.Dre’s seminal album 2001. The title relates to all those people who have helped and supported the band – individually and collectively - and also to all people everywhere who help make this tough life easier.
Since the last tour and single in December 2009 the various members of Acoustic Ladyland have been typically busy with all kinds of diverse projects – saxophonist Pete has created The Ugly Guys – a duo project with incredible pianist Matthew Bourne, exploring the dark, romantic world of tango, as well as working with Latin legends Larry Harlow, Jimmy Bosch and Tito Rodriquez Jr.; drummer Seb has been adding the final touches to the new Polar Bear album Peepers, out in March on Leaf Records, while also finding time to record with Brett Anderson and Brigitte Fontaine. Guitarist Chris has been touring with his band Trio VD, one of the UK’s most earth-shatteringly exciting new groups, while bassist Ruth has been touring and recording a new album with French piano genius Bojan Z.
The band hit on a new approach during the last tour, developing a more economical, dynamic sound. The thrilling intensity for which Acoustic Ladyland is now so renowned is only enhanced by this new approach, allowing the music more space to breathe, while increasing the dynamic power of their enormous repertoire of sounds and material spanning four albums. This new sound is informing Pete Wareham’s writing, paving the way for new material, which he is developing with the band all the time.
The Acoustic Ladyland shows on this tour will demonstrate a band in a state of flux: experimenting with new material, new textures, rhythms, melodies… creating the next album before your very ears, while still finding fresh approaches to their classic material.
